| Middleburg,
Virginia
Called the Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital
soon after the turn of the century, Middleburg, Virginia is the
home of Centennial Farms and certainly some of the finest horse
country found anywhere in the world.
Centennial Farms is located on 65 acres at
the Middleburg training center, which was founded in 1956 by the
acclaimed horseman and philanthropist Paul Mellon.
The Mellon influence can be felt throughout
the area and that carries over to the training center. The distance
poles lining the track are still adorned with the grey and gold
of his famed Rokeby Stables.
Rokeby Stables is to this day the only thoroughbred
owner to have won Classic races on both sides of the Atlantic.
European legend Mill Reef captured the Epsom Derby, the Prix de
l’ Arc de Triomphe, and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth
Stakes at Ascot in 1971 before Sea Hero subsequently won the 1993
Kentucky Derby.
When hosting our annual farm gathering in
Middleburg, our investors stay at the famed Red Fox Inn, billed
as the oldest original inn in America. The Red Fox was a gathering
point for Confederate Colonel John Mosby during the Civil War.
A century later, President John F. Kennedy’s press secretary
Pierre Salinger used the Jeb Stuart Room at the Red Fox for press
conferences.
The horse is certainly a part of life in Middleburg.
The town hosts the annual Middleburg Gold Cup, one of the most
prestigious steeplechase events held in North America and the
streets of the picturesque town are filled with antique shops
and art galleries dedicated to the sporting life.
We would love for you to join us in Middleburg
when we showcase our young horses at the farm. Our investors are
of course invited to visit the farm and many of our owners’
most enjoyable memories are from time spent in this wonderful
setting with the horses.
Considering the history, picturesque
landscape and past success we have had breaking and developing
our young horses here, why would one even consider anyplace else.
